Why are you making this edition?

This release is personally curated by Pierce and not via the publishers. The dream has always been to produce an elevated and beautiful release of the seven book series, and we’ve worked hard over the last two years to make that a reality, starting with Red Rising

Will you make matching editions of the rest of the Red Rising series?

We plan on it! 

Will the books be signed by Pierce Brown?

Yes, all books in all the tiers will be signed by Pierce.

How does the structure of the tiers work?

The editions are structured into four different tiers, each with their own specialized craftsmanship. These range from the Artist Edition, which is offset-printed and buckram-bound with a reversible dust jacket and a slip case, all the way to the fully hand-bound leather Roman Numeral edition which comes cradled in a hand-carved marble enclosure. 

All four tiers are crammed full with 21 beautiful interior illustrations by Marc Simonetti as well as an updated institute map, the full suite of house sigils designed by Joel Daniel Phillips, and new writing about each house from Pierce Brown. And of course, all editions are signed by Pierce.

How does access to the tiers work?

Like many fine-press publishers, Curious King has a pre-order rights system, where members who have bought their specialized editions previously have the right of first refusal for purchasing their specialized, higher tiers.

In the case of Red Rising, Curious King has doubled their capacity for all three of these specialized tiers to make sure there is opportunity for everyone where possible to purchase these editions during the pre-sale window. We expect these higher tiers may go very quickly, and they will be available at a first-come-first serve basis and limited to 1 book per person per tier.

How many books will be available?

Artist Edition: Limited to 3-week ordering window (while supplies last)

Numbered Edition: Limited to 350 copies

Lettered Edition: Limited to 52 copies

Roman Numeral Edition: Limited to 10 copies

But really, how many of the Artist Edition will be available?

Unlike the other tiers, you may buy multiples of the Artist Edition, which isn’t officially limited in quantity. We plan to print as many copies as we can handle shipping (and that Pierce can handle signing!). However, we are a small team and at some point we will have to put a cap on the numbers if this thing really goes bananas. 

Why is there such a short Presale Window?

Per our contract with Random House we are required to limit the presale window to 3 weeks, which opens on March 20, 2026. So act fast! 

When can we expect the books to ship?

We expect to start shipping the Artist edition Fall of 2026, with the Lettered, Numbered, and Roman Numeral editions will ship closer to the end of the year. 

Where will you ship?

Pretty much everywhere. 

Since Lit Escalates is based in the US and Curious King in the UK, we will be shipping the Artist Edition to folks across the globe with two bases of shipping operations so we can offer more affordable shipping. 

If you have purchased the Numbered, Lettered, or Roman Numeral Edition, it will be shipped directly from the bindery and expedited by courier.

I need to update my shipping address or cancel my order

How did you decide pricing? 

Every book has been designed to the last detail, and for each edition, that comes with different costs for artist labor and materials. 

For our Artist edition, the interiors have been redesigned, with 4-colour offset lithography and on premium uncoated fine paper to give you the finest specs possible for a high quality hardback edition. This edition also comes with a slipcase and a reversible dust jacket, as well as quarterwrap artwork on the book itself.

Our other three editions have been crafted by hand by an amazing group of artisans. Every artisan involved in these editions has not only been paid an industry standard to bring their expertise to craft each of these special books, but also created them individually with love and care. 

With these editions, you're not only buying a book, you are buying a work of art. 

I have been told I have Series Rights with my book, what does that mean?

If you have purchased the Numbered, Lettered, or Roman Numeral editions you will have Series Rights from Curious King. This will guarantee you will have the option to buy the same tier edition of Golden Son in the future. 

I want to sell my pre-order copy to someone else

If you have purchased the Numbered, Lettered, or Roman Numeral and you wish to sell your pre-order to someone else, you will need to contact Curious King (RedRisingFinePress@lit-escalates.com) to transfer the rights to the new owner so they can purchase the next book instead. The rights follow the book.
